Welcome to Lucky Animal Protection Shelter

Lucky Animal Protection Shelter (LAPS) is the first and only dog rescue & animal protection shelter in Khyber Pakhtunkwa Province, Pakistan. Since 2017 we have performed over 2,500 spay/neuter surgeries and have vaccinated over 7,000 street dogs who would otherwise receive no care or kindness.

With a population of approximately 35 million people, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and its capital city Peshawar in particular, has a huge problem with stray and feral dogs, and the city and outlying areas are struggling with ways to manage the problem. Sadly, this means city and municipal authorities regularly rounding up and mercilessly killing these dogs by poisoning or shooting them to control the population numbers.

Rabies is endemic in dogs and every year there a a number of people who die from the bites of rabid dogs. Lady Reading Hospital, a leading provincial hospital treats about 25 patients for dog bites and related cases on a daily basis.

There are also no rescue or emergency services available in the entire city and province for injured and abandoned dogs.

The social and cultural environment and attitudes also cause immense cruelty and suffering for these dogs at the hands of local population on the street.

These are the critical issues we are committed to addressing.
